I contend that there is no free will. There is intelligent choice and many people mistake that for free will. This is easily understood once you learn the concept of determinants. Determinant: cause: a factor that causes or influences something.
In fact, the reality is determinism. Nothing occurs until it's determinants are in place. And once those determinants are in place, it will occur.
What one thinks is itself a determinant. But that thought itself did not occur until the determinants for it were already in place.
Key to this concept is that always the determinants immediate precede the response. And that is the point, it is a response to the extant determinants. Notwithstanding that intelligent responses feel like a free will choice.
